More and more company's want to place security cameras and for a better control they want to have remote monitoring trough the internet. Trough this way they can watch their systems anytime on any personal computer that is connected on the internet. Our client wanted a small device to secure his model train. In the future there will come more camera's all above the train rails. These camera's will not only be used to secure the train and to locate the train automatically and to stop the train if an object is on the rails, known as ―Context sensitive system‖. If you want to have a remote monitoring of your system the easiest way is to use a personal computer that can be connected to the internet. An USB camera is quickly connected to a personal computer and the images from the camera can be directly seen on the screen. Using a PC for remote monitoring only is expensive and for some systems takes in too much place. That's why we are making an embedded system for remote monitoring. The embedded system can replace the PC and take over all its tasks for remote monitoring with the advantage of being much smaller and cheaper. The embedded system consist of a main component the microcontroller from Atmel. On the board there is also an USB and Ethernet connection. The project, which consist of building the embedded system, has a hardware and a software part. The hardware part will consist of building the electrical schematic of the embedded system where after a printed circuit board (PCB) can be made of. For the software there will be different programs used to test every part (USB, Ethernet,…) on the board. At the end we have a board where every part works so that it can be further used to make the remote monitoring system.
