Recently CBC started a new project to help students find a job and to provide an overview on the current job market.
The aim of my project is to collect all results found on job search websites. The layout of the results will be removed and only the useful information will be extracted and stored. Although this project searches job vacancies, other queries are possible (e.g. real estate or car queries).
In order to add a job search website the "first result page" has to be visited. The type of result and a way of getting to the "next result page" has to be set. These settings are saved for each search website.
When the settings are configured, the program can search the result pages for job vacancies. They are collected in a table and can be exported to XML, a database or HTML.
The end result of this project should be user-friendly and adaptable to other websites. This way students will have an extra instrument in finding their dream job. On the other hand CBC will be able to know which job vacancies are most common.
The solution will be written in c#. I will use Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition to design the user interface and to work on the code. The main object that I will be using is the AxSHDocVw.AxWebBrowser. This object is an Internet Explorer web browser. With this object added to the application the solution will be a customized Internet Explorer window for extracting job vacancy's data from the net.
