Centro Stirling S. Coop is a company located in Aretxabaleta, and is a center for research and development where new methods are tested in the field of renewable energy and heating- or cooling systems. To complete these tests and developments the company co-operates with several other companies of the Mondragon Group like Copreci, Fagor, Ceramat, Eika, Embega and many others.
The first part of this project, was to perform a certain number of tests, then analyse them, and finally, to learn about the working principals of two types of tumble dryers. One of them is the electrical heated condenser dryer, which uses an electrical heat element to heat up the process air, and a second airflow of ambient air to cool the process air down, whereas the other dryer works with a heat pump system.
Further on, this knowledge would be used as a blueprint in the development of a prototype for a heat exchanger which uses Peltier technology to cool down and heat up the process air. The main goal is to test and adjust this prototype until the final result can compete with popular dryers that are available on the market today.
